Eye care & eye surgery in Iran — what to expect

Eye care in Iran is delivered in dedicated eye hospitals with sub-specialists for every part of the eye: cataract and refractive surgeons, retina specialists, cornea surgeons, glaucoma experts, and pediatric ophthalmologists. A full examination — including corneal mapping, OCT scans, and retinal imaging — is completed on your first day. Cataract and LASIK are performed the next day as outpatient procedures, so a typical trip is only 3–5 days. Complex retina and cornea surgery may require a slightly longer stay for follow-up checks before flying.

Common questions about Eye care & eye surgery in Iran

Can both eyes be treated on the same trip?+

Yes. LASIK is performed on both eyes in one session. For cataracts, surgeons usually operate on the second eye 2–3 days after the first, which still fits within a one-week stay.

What should I bring to my eye consultation?+

Your current glasses or lens prescription and any previous eye reports. If you wear contact lenses, stop using soft lenses 1 week (hard lenses 3 weeks) before LASIK assessment.

When can I fly after eye surgery?+

After cataract surgery or LASIK you can fly 2–3 days later once your surgeon has checked your eyes. After retina surgery with a gas bubble, flying must wait until the gas has absorbed — your surgeon will tell you exactly when.
